Countdown Global Mental Health 2030

Countdown GMH 2030 is a global monitoring platform that draws upon a range of factors and indicators, from economic performance to attitudes to mental healthcare, to measure the current state of global mental health.

Overview

Countdown GMH 2030 is a global  monitoring platform that draws upon a range of factors and indicators, from economic performance to attitudes to mental healthcare, to measure the current state of global mental health.

It is a collaboration between Global Mental Health @Harvard, the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, the Global Mental Health Peer Network (GMHPN) and United for Global Mental Health (UnitedGMH).

It has been developed to inform action: action to campaign, to advocate, to communicate and to change policy and practice so that everyone everywhere is able to exercise their right to the highest attainable level of mental health.

The Monitoring report

The second Countdown GMH 2030 monitoring  report is available here. The report presents an indicator set of 48 indicators drawn from 15 sources.

It explains how these indicators have been organised in a framework composed of four pillars: determinants of mental health, factors shaping the demand (and need) for mental health care, factors shaping the strength of the mental health system, and wellbeing.

It shows how the data can be used to examine what the situation is at country level in order to inform advocacy and drive change.

The Data

Having timely, representative, good-quality data on mental health is essential to provide an evidence base for decision-making, drive policy change, ensure accountability, and make the case for increased investment and improved access to services. Countdown GMH 2030 draws together globally comparable data on 48 indicators relevant to mental health from 15 different sources in a single place. Users can access the data via Countdown GMH’s free and interactive dashboard, which enables them to explore, share and download the data by country and/or indicator, view country comparisons and identify data gaps.

The Dashboard

The Countdown GMH 2030 dashboard, developed by UNICEF, brings together useful information on key mental health indicators, empowering users to promote effective action for mental health based on good quality data and evidence. Equipped with comprehensive data, policymakers and stakeholders can enhance national mental health policies and plans, ensuring they are responsive to the specific needs of the population.

Notes for the dashboard:

The dashboard is structured around the four components of the Countdown for GMH 2030 framework:

Determinants of mental health, factors shaping the demand (and need) for mental health care, factors shaping the strength of the mental health system, mental health wellbeing

Moreover, the dashboard is divided into distinct pages.

  • Overview numerical: Numerical indicators (quantitative measures like percentages, rates or scores) to monitor and track various determinants of mental health, the mental health burden of disease, mental health policies and plans, mental health resources (including financial and human), and self-reported well being measures.
  • Overview categorical: Indicators (qualitative descriptive measures) to monitor and track sub-components such as financial accessibility of mental health care, policies and plan, M&E and data systems.
  • Country data table: Country-level disaggregated data on various mental health indicators listed in the numerical and categorical sections.
  • Data gaps: Information on missing data, disaggregated regionally and across different countries.
