Inaugural GMHS, UK 2018
The United Kingdom (UK) hosted the Inaugural Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in October 2018; the first, ever meeting of international ministers solely focussed on mental health. As the first ministerial event of its kind, the endeavour was to ensure that the summit showcased innovations from across the global south and north; that they were balanced across health and non-health settings; that rights-based approaches were considered on par with others and that experts-by-experience were central to the discussions.Download Now
GMHS, Netherlands 2019
The second Global Mental Health Summit was hosted by the Netherlands and co-organized with WHO and a broad group of stakeholders. Many of these had for years promoted structural attention for mental health and psychosocial wellbeing in emergencies. This Summit advanced political recognition globally of the need for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) as an integral part of any crisis response in humanitarian emergencies and protracted crises.Download Now
GMHS, France 2021
The Paris summit “Mind Our Rights, now!” was hosted by France and co-organized by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The summit was a milestone in the mobilization for rights in mental health and quality care systems that respect human rights. This theme was particularly relevant in the context of populations hard hit by the pandemic.Download Now
GMMHS, Italy 2022
The fourth Global Mental Health Summit (GMHS) was hosted by Italy and was organized by the Italian Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità). The Summit theme was “”Skills, Rights, Care: Advancing Community-Focused Approach to Mental Health.” The core focus of the Summit was the community approach to mental health, pioneered by Italy with Law 180 of 1978, which led to the closure of psychiatric hospitals in the country.Download Now
GMHS, Argentina 2023
The Fifth Global Mental Health Summit was organised by the Government of Argentina in October 2023 with the theme, “Mental Health in All Policies.” It was the first Global Mental Health Summit to be held in Latin America. You can find more information about the event in English and Spanish here.

The next Global Mental Health Summit will be hosted by the Government of Qatar. More information will follow shortly. As in previous years, United for Global Mental Health will be on the Advisory Group for this Summit alongside WHO, UNICEF and previous summit host countries.
