Mental health clearly a priority for the next generation, as leading issue of discussion at the 2018 Nexus Global Summit
On 27 July 2018 United for Global Mental Health (formerly “The Global Campaign for Mental Health”) worked with advocates from around the world to present a powerful prevention and panel discussion at the 2018 Nexus Global Summit, making the case that mental health is our generation’s greatest health challenge.
Poet and mental health advocate Joshi Brown, opened with a powerful poem inspired by her own experience of living with the diagnosis of bipolar type 1. To read more of Yashi’s story, click here
Elisha London followed this powerful poem with a short presentation on the state of mental health around the world and the kinds of solutions that need scaling up. A discussion then continued with Joshi, Elisha, next generation philanthropist Natasha Mueller and technology entrepreneur HRH Fahad Al Saud; each sharing their own stories of how poor mental health has impacted them individually, and people they love.
With mental health increasing to be the leading health burden by 2030, globally, and lack of promotion, prevention and treatment to meet this demand, mental ill health truly is our greatest health challenge.
The Nexus community responded with a series of commitments to take further action following the Summit, and we at United for Global Mental Health look forward to partnering to improve mental health around the world through action.
